Enthusiast games are board games for regular players who are ready for more of a challenge. In Dutch we call them kennerspellen, a term that comes from the prestigious Kennerspiel des Jahres award, the German prize for the best board game for experienced players.
In an Enthusiast game you make more strategic choices, have several paths to victory and build something up over the course of the game. The rules take 15 to 30 minutes to explain and a game often lasts 60 to 120 minutes. Well-known examples are Terraforming Mars, Wingspan and Everdell.
