The magnificent city of Waterdeep, one of the finest places in the Forgotten Realms, is a place full of political intrigue and secret schemes.
In the board game Lords of Waterdeep you step into the shoes of a powerful Lord who wants to take control of the city. There is plenty of wealth to be gained, but you have to be clever to grab it!
Lords of Waterdeep is an exciting and challenging board game in which you take on the role of a secret ruler of the city of Waterdeep. The game is completely in the style of Dungeons & Dragons!
The goal? Gather adventurers, complete quests and beat your opponents with clever strategies. But watch out: every choice counts, and you only have limited resources to carry out your plans!
Each round you get a handful of actions, but the choices are endless. Will you go looking for adventurers to complete quests? Will you play Intrigue cards to sabotage your opponents? Or will you try to grab the First Player marker, so you can start first in the next round? Maybe you will construct a building to gain an advantage later when other players use it. Every decision has consequences, and you need to plan cleverly to win.
The heart of the game is completing quests. At the start of the game you are given a secret Lord, who determines which types of quests earn you bonus points at the end of the game. But be careful: the quests that are available change during the game. Sometimes it is tricky to make the most of your bonus.
Quests require different kinds of resources, such as gold or adventurers. The more resources a quest requires, the bigger the reward. Even so, it is often smarter to complete several small quests that match your Lord, so you collect those bonus points. Plan well ahead, so you never run out of the right adventurers or gold!
A handy strategy is to send at least one agent to Waterdeep Harbor. Here you can not only play an Intrigue card, but also place your agent again at the end of the round. With a bit of luck this gives you both extra resources and an advantage over your opponents. But watch out: playing too many Intrigue cards can backfire, because you collect fewer resources than when you use buildings on the board.
